Originated in Rhode Island and recognized as a distinct breed in 1904. The Single Comb Rhode Island Red Chicken is our most popular breed for egg production. They are also known to be a good winter layer.

Chicken Facts:

  • Weights -   Hen-----7 1/2 lbs     Rooster------9 1/2 lbs
                    Pullet---4-6 lbs        Cockerel----7-8 lbs
  • Purpose - Dual Purpose: egg laying and meat production
