No choice of breed and these are all males of Heavy Breed Chicks (Heritage male poultry.) Photos in the gallery are some of the birds you may receive. Generally these old time heritage breed male roosters take 4-5 months to reach 5-6 pounds of live weight. They do not have the growth rate of modern day broilers and take a longer time to harvest weight. They will have a lean meat and not the legs and/or heart issues that some of the modern day broilers have.

All arrived healthy and didn’t lose even one. Just butchered 8 of them and I do have to say they were the toughest birds I have ever tried to cut up. They are very lean not much fat and weighing out about 3 1/2 pounds at 5 months old. The rest we are going to wait another 3 weeks so they will have heavier breast, the legs and Wings are good size already.

I ordered 9 egg layers and this 25 frypan special. I received 40 healthy chicks and have not lost one! This was my first time raising chicks and there was so much good information on the Cackle Hatchery website and included with the chicks that I was able to raise them all successfully with ease! We are taking 30 healthy roosters to be processed next week!

I accidently ordered these along with my egg-layers, now I can’t tell which is which for some of them. As far as I can tell, I have all females. My chicks are 11 weeks and NO crowing, lol. I’m fine with this because I find females are heavier than the roosters, so perfect for meat chickens.
I would definitely order this again to supplement meat and egg-layers.
I also love ordering from Cackle because I always receive healthy birds and haven’t lost any like I did with getting from the local box stores. Super happy and a return customer.

Received 28 bird with the extra for shipping, all healthy and lively. Beaks, eyes, and toes were all normal which is a plus for us as we try to only raise healthy animals. Great value.
As a note to others, the USPS will give extended dates on the tracking numbers and not update them really at all, but every order we’ve made we get in 2-3 days from hatch date.

although i wish i had the guys 23 females i just realized this was supposed to be mostly males and i ended up with a few extras so 11 females and 18 males from what i can see. wasn’t really trying to get alot of roosters but i will try to make it work out. my mistake 100%. also the shipping was a bit nerve wrecking as they said it would arrive thursday at 8 pm and it arrived tuesday at 9 am and even though asked for notifications i got 1 the whole time and it did not mention where i was supposed to pick them up untill the post office called me and told me. thankfully it was the closest post office to my house, that is what i was hoping for. so definately be prepared to pick these up for like a few weeks at anytime.

Frying Pan Review
The birds arrived safe and healthy – all is well… However, with the frying pan special we were to get 25 males to butcher… We received 2 males and 23 females – so now we have 38 egg layers – arghhhh

Thank you for my order of chickens on the above po#. We ordered 25 Ameraucana pullets and 25 frypan special cockeriels. One was dead in shipping and we haven’t lost one since and it will be three weeks on Monday. That is a super mortality rate if you ask me and I sure do appreciate the LIVELY and HEALTHY chicks we got from you.
