Description

Product Overview

The Assorted Peafowl Chicks package from Cackle Hatchery® is a hatchery choice assortment of straight-run peafowl chicks. This product is ideal for customers who want to raise peafowl and are flexible on color and sex.

Cackle Hatchery® offers Assorted Peafowl Chicks as hatchery choice, meaning there is no choice of color or sex. Cackle will try to give the best assortment possible at the time of shipment, but color variety is not guaranteed. The product page lists assorted peafowl chicks as available for order June through August.

This is an exciting option for customers who enjoy the surprise of a hatchery choice order. However, it is not the right choice for customers who need a specific peafowl color, pattern, sex, or breeding pair.

Important Hatchery Choice Notice

This product should be very clear before customers order:

Sorry, we do not tell you what color we sent with this package, and we do not keep records of what breeds are sent.

Cackle Hatchery® sells this product as hatchery choice only. That means customers should not expect color identification, sex identification, breed records, or a guaranteed assortment. It is possible to receive one type or a mix, depending on what is available at the time of shipment.

Customers who need a specific color or variety should choose a specific peafowl listing instead of this assorted package.

Important Guarantee Notice

Cackle Hatchery® does not offer any guarantee, replacement, or refund on shipments of peafowl chicks.

Because peafowl chicks require special handling and careful early management, this policy should remain visible on the product page. Customers should prepare the brooder, feed, water, and housing before the chicks arrive.

Cackle also sends Hatchery Choice female baby chicks with peafowl orders to help teach the peafowl chicks how to eat and drink and to provide extra warmth during shipment.

What May Be Included?

Cackle’s hatchery choice peafowl assortment may include one or more of the following varieties, depending on availability at the time of shipment:

India Blue Peafowl
Purple Peafowl
Midnight Peafowl
Green Peafowl
Opal Peafowl
Cameo Peafowl

Black Shoulder varieties may include:

Blue Black Shoulder Peafowl
Purple Black Shoulder Peafowl
Midnight Black Shoulder Peafowl
Opal Black Shoulder Peafowl

Pied varieties may include:

Blue Pied Peafowl
Purple Pied Peafowl
Silver Pied Peafowl
Cameo Pied Peafowl

Cackle’s blog Peafowl Varieties — Which is Which? explains that what customers receive in the peafowl assortment depends on what is available at the time. The blog also explains the difference between peafowl color and pattern, which is helpful for customers trying to understand peafowl variety names.

Peafowl Terminology: Peacock, Peahen, and Peachick

Customers often use “peacock” to describe all peafowl, but the terms are different.

A peacock is the male.
A peahen is the female.
A peachick is the young chick.
Peafowl refers to the species overall.

The peacock grows the long train of feathers that can be lifted into a fan during courtship. The peahen does not have the long train.

This distinction helps customers understand why this product is sold as straight run. Young peafowl are not offered as sexed chicks in this assortment.

Appearance and Ornamental Value

Peafowl are known around the world for their beauty. The male’s long train, colorful body, and dramatic courtship display make peafowl one of the most recognizable ornamental birds.

The peacock is also the national bird of India. India Blue Peafowl are especially well known, but other color and pattern varieties can add even more interest to a farm, estate, homestead, or ornamental bird collection.

Cackle’s Peafowl for Sale category lists assorted peafowl chicks and notes that Cackle has been a leading peafowl egg hatchery since 1936, with chicks available from June through August.

Foraging, Roosting, and Farm Behavior

Peafowl are good foragers on the ground. They enjoy ranging, searching for food, and exploring open areas. However, they also like to fly up into high trees to roost, so customers should plan housing and property management carefully.

They are hardy and relatively easy to keep when given the right setup. Peafowl eat about the same feed as pheasants, and young peachicks need careful brooder management until they are strong enough to stay warm on their own.

Cackle’s 6 Tips for Raising Peafowl recommends housing peachicks in a brooder until they grow enough to stay warm on their own. The same resource is a strong internal care link for customers ordering peachicks.

Loud Calls and Neighbor Considerations

Peafowl are beautiful, but they are not quiet birds. Some people enjoy the loud call of the male, while others may find it scary, startling, or disruptive. Neighbors have been known to complain.

This is one of the most important customer expectation points for peafowl. They are best suited for customers who have enough space, understand their noise level, and are allowed to keep them under local rules or neighborhood restrictions.

Cackle’s 6 Pros and 6 Cons of Raising Peafowl is a helpful internal link for customers deciding whether peafowl are right for their property.

Maturity and Egg Laying

Peafowl are slow to mature. Peahens generally start laying around 2 years of age, so customers should not expect fast egg production.

Egg production is limited compared with chickens. Cackle’s product information lists peafowl as ornamental birds that produce buff to white eggs, with poor egg production at about 3 to 28 eggs per year starting in March.

Customers should choose assorted peafowl mainly for ornamental value, farm presence, and the enjoyment of raising unique birds rather than for egg production.

Assorted Peafowl Chicks vs Specific Peafowl Varieties

The assorted package is best for customers who are flexible. It is not best for customers who need a specific color, pattern, sex, or pair.

Choose Assorted Peafowl Chicks if you:

Want hatchery choice peachicks
Are flexible on color and sex
Understand no color guarantee is offered
Are comfortable with no records of what was sent
Want Cackle to choose the best assortment available
Want to raise ornamental peafowl from chicks

Choose a specific peafowl listing if you:

Need India Blue, Black Shoulder, Opal, Spalding, or another specific variety
Need a planned pair
Want more predictable color or pattern
Are working on a breeding project
Need clearer variety expectations

Customers comparing options may want to review India Blue Peafowl, Black Shoulder Peafowl, Opal Peafowl, Opal Black Shoulder Peafowl, and Spalding Peafowl.

Shipping and Order Notes

Cackle Hatchery® sells Assorted Peafowl Chicks as straight-run hatchery choice. Orders for peafowl must be placed on a separate order, according to Cackle’s peafowl category feed.

Cackle also sends Hatchery Choice female baby chicks with peafowl orders to help teach the peafowl how to eat and drink and to provide extra warmth.

Customers should check the Assorted Peafowl Chicks product page and Cackle’s Availability Chart before ordering. Cackle notes that its availability chart updates often and may change as egg numbers become more accurate.

We ordered 5 peachicks and 5 silkies. They all arrived safe and healthy. 2 additional chicks (not peachicks) were added to our delight! We did lose 2 peachicks through no fault of Cackle. One was lost after 3 weeks and the other was lost after 2 months. The remaining three are thriving. ALL of the chicks are thriving as well. Thank you for the great service!!!

  2. ijeddy2009 (verified owner)

I ordered 5 peachicks, all of which arrived healthy. I had to had feed for the first couple days but they were shipped with a few chicks so that helped teach them where to eat and drink. Ended up with 3 male and 2 females. All are still growing out very nicely.

  3. Kevin McGaff (verified owner)

Ordered 4 Peachicks. All arrived healthy and strong. Ordered 6 other chicks with them and they were doing great as well (gave me an extra as well, so seven total).. Thank you for getting them here safe and sound. Every one doing great. Great job as always guys.

  4. jenniferscar83 (verified owner)

I ordered 4 peachicks. Received all 4 healthy and happy. Within a couple days I had 2 pass for unknown reasons. Pretty sure it was my own fault. Peas and poults are so finicky. They did come with the cutest chicks. The 2 peas that made it are doing great and already super friendly. I will likely order more! Thanks Cackle!

  5. Kristina Krell (verified owner)

Extremely experienced with poultry. I ordered three pea chicks and they arrived packed with three mixed breed chicks. Within two days of arrival, two of my three pea chicks have died. I am devastated. All are on game bird starter and were given electrolytes

  6. chris gardipee (verified owner)

I ordered 3 peachicks and all 3 are still alive and doing well! In the beginning I thought one was too weak to make it this far but it did. I just recently purchased 2 more!

    the Peafowl/Chicken Extravaganza

We ordered 3 peafowl on wait-list. Got the call they were available and went for it. Got 3. 2 males, one hen. Beautiful, funny, active babies came with an assortment of baby chicks. Everyone is in the brooder, eating, drinking and snuggling up to the stuffed frog (which seems to work to hush the calling the peafowl make when they cant see us). Nothing like seeing little fluffballs snuggled up to a stuffed animal for comfort. Everyone is seemingly healthy and doing great! Super excited to discover which breed the 2 brown peafowl are. The white’ish one is a male and ether opal or white; a no brainer. The browns… time will tell as the colors start to come in.
Everyone at CH has always been exceptional with the customer service. Every time I have ordered from CH I have been very pleased with what comes. Yes, there are incidental losses with chicks. Sometimes they make it, sometimes they dont. Its just a roll of the dice. I recognize that theres more of a finacial risk with the peafowl, but I know thats because unlike chickens, theres not the daily egg production happening with the peafowl. We are supe hopeful that the 3 peafowl we recieved are robust and successful. So far, so good! We are happy here!

  8. Tiger

    Really nice looking birds

All of them arrived healthy and active, they are really pretty birds will definitely order from cackle hatchery again

  9. Charise G

    Happy

We got 4 beautiful peachicks and 6 mixed chicks back in June and I am pleased to say that they are all growing strong. We got 3 Indiana blue peachicks and a whit peachicks. Will order from in the future.

  10. C Gardner

    Great company

We ordered 4 assorted peafowl and where surprised when a few chickens where included to keep them company. Great shipping, super fast response when I contacted them via email about shipping. Post office tracking said it was going to take 2 additional days. Birds arrived on time and are beautiful. We had one with splayed leg but we have braced it and he is doing wonderful. This company is exceptional and I will definitely ordered from them again in the future.

    Peafowl Rock

Peafowl arrived in absolutely excellent shape. I only lost 1 which I considered acceptable

  12. Darlene

    Thank you for your advice!

My 2 pea chicks I received from your hatchery in the spring are doing great. Just one question, at what age do you suggest switching young peafowl from starter to grower feed?

  13. Beth

    Excellent experience

I ordered 2 peachicks. I received them plus 8 assorted chickens to keep them company and train on feed and water. I lost one of my peachicks in the first 10 days. It was tragic, and I do not know what happened to him, but all the others are doing amazingly! The 8 chicks are so hearty, and the peachick and I have made great friends! I love the little guy so much 🙂 I love Cackle Hatchery, and refer everyone to you guys. Even though we had the loss, I am still 100% satisfied! Soetimes birdies just don’t make it. it was made very clear there is no refunds for peachicks and that they are very hard to raise from chicks. That is a gamble I was willing to take. Thanks Cackle Hat

  14. MTMel

    Great service!

Great website, so many choices, and instructions & info are easy to understand when ordering. All of my peachicks arrived alive and active, along with a nicely diverse mix of bantams and a couple extra regular chicks (and not the usual plain white mystery chickens you get from other hatcheries) to keep the peas company. Very happy with my experience!

  15. Chris

All Chicks and Peafowl are doing great!

Absolutely healthy birds. Took the risk of ordering peafowl and am very pleased with the gamble. Thank you very much. Couldn’t be happier.

  16. Rozy

    awesome gamble

Thank you for posting the complaint letter! I understand the frustration of being out 51 hard-earned bucks, with nothing to show but hard effort and heartbreak. Something we need to consider when we order, huh? I also understand that you are unable to do anything about it. But what beautiful creatures! And I’ve always been very happy with the quality of guineas & chickens you’ve sent… so… I’m going to take the gamb.e

  17. Deborah (verified owner)

    Very satisfied:)

I have ordered for 3 years now. Although being shipped so young, sometimes one doesn’t make it. However; my peacocks an peahens are beautiful and I will continue to order. Thank you!

    Our Apologizes

Peafowl as stated in the description is sold with no guarantee of refund or replacement. I am sorry you felt that we were unsympathetic towards your situation but there just wasn’t anything else we could do.

    Peacocks

I put my order (Invoice#189661)in months ago, I was told I would receive my birds in July 2016, I was okay with that schedule. I took a phone call from the hatchery regarding the possibility of an early delivery schedule, I accepted. I received the birds July 1, 2016 at my local post office. 12 birds total, 9 assorted chickens, and 3 peafowl unsorted also. 2 brown in color and one yellow. I assume they are different breed, no problem. I do notice the yellow bird is weak, but with a good nature, meaning it would follow my hand around and would allow to be touched, petted. I notice the bird continually getting weaker, I trained it on water and feed, it was eating and drinking until the end. But it kept getting weaker as time went on, it died as so often happens with little birds. The thing is this one is a $51 bird I bought thinking I had ordered healthy birds, and I may have, who knows what happens to these birds in transit. Thing that I am miffed about in I call and am told tough luck. Well Cackle you want to be like that, I accept that, I do not have to spend my money with you, Savor those $51, I learned my lesson.
I understand why my order was fast tracked ahead of schedule now.
