Description
The original English Orpingtons developed in the 1800s by Britain’s William Cook had solid color plumage. The unique Partridge English Orpington offered here is a rare and relatively recent development.
The hens have attractively penciled reddish brown body feathers, golden hackles, and black tails. The roosters are a combination of deep red and shiny black. The feathers are soft and loose, giving this breed a round appearance. The loose feathering also makes these chickens extremely winter hardy.
English Orpingtons are broad in body, with a short back, a small head with a medium size single comb, and short legs that result in a low stance. Unlike American Orpingtons, English Orpingtons are not yet recognized by the American Poultry Association.
English Orpingtons are good foragers that also do well in close confinement. The hens naturally lay into the winter months and they may or may not brood. Despite their large size, English Orpingtons are incredibly gentle and people friendly.
Cackle Hatchery® English Orpingtons are 100% English stock, having the characteristic round appearance that distinguishes them from American Orpingtons. Our Partridge English Orpington chickens are sure to add distinction to your backyard flock.
