Description
Porcelain d’Uccle Bantam Chicken
Breed History and Origin
When it comes to true bantam chickens, Cackle Hatchery® offers several unique options, including the Porcelain d’Uccle Bantam. Originating from Belgium, the d’Uccle is a true bantam breed known for its distinctive feathering and ornamental appeal. This variety was recognized by the American Standard of Perfection in 1965 within the Feather Legged Bantam class. Cackle Hatchery® Poultry Breeding Farm has been developing its bloodline of Porcelain d’Uccle Bantams since 1987, maintaining the quality and characteristics that make this breed popular among poultry enthusiasts.
Appearance and Breed Characteristics
Porcelain d’Uccle Bantam chickens are easily recognized by their feathered legs, full beards, and muffs, which give them a soft and rounded appearance. The porcelain coloration features a unique blend of light tones with subtle patterning, making them especially attractive in exhibition flocks. Mature hens typically weigh about 22 ounces, while roosters average around 26 ounces. Pullets generally weigh about 20 ounces, and cockerels about 22 ounces. Their compact size and detailed feathering make them a standout ornamental breed.
Egg Production and Performance
Porcelain d’Uccle Bantam hens lay small cream or lightly tinted bantam-sized eggs, and egg production is considered good for a true bantam breed. They provide a consistent, though smaller, egg supply for backyard flocks.
Temperament and Flock Suitability
This breed is known for its docile and gentle temperament, making it an excellent choice for backyard flocks and families. d’Uccle Bantams are easy to handle and adapt well to a variety of flock environments. Fertility percentages generally range between 40–55%, with a recommended mating ratio of six females to one male. Hens are considered setters and may go broody. They prefer roost heights between 2 to 4 feet.
Backyard and Exhibition Use
The Porcelain d’Uccle Bantam is primarily an ornamental and exhibition breed, prized for its unique feathering and calm personality. It is also a popular backyard pet due to its manageable size and friendly nature. Very nice and soft friendly breed, ours do well with children and adults handling them. Thank you cackle for the great birds.

The D’uccles are one of my favorite bantam breeds. They are extremely friendly and pretty healthy and hearty. They make it through winters nicely. All my chicks were healthy and happy when I got them. The roosters have that brown highlight feathers now that they are fully grown. They also have the cutest crow, especially when they are young.
Cassandra Mcconnell –
I am obsessed with my Porcelain d’Uccles! They’re tiny, fluffy, bougie little chickens with big personalities. They walk around like they’re wearing fancy feathered pants, and they’re surprisingly sweet and cuddly. They lay cute little eggs and love being held. Truly one of the best breeds I’ve ever added to my coop! And honestly… I’m already hooked. I can’t wait to add Mille Fleur d’Uccles next their coloring is gorgeous, and I know they’ll fit right in with my little feathered fashionistas.
Cackle did add and extra couple to my order and I’m glad they did cause a few of them were DOA.

The Porcelain D’uccle chicks I received from Cackle on the first of August have feathered out and are thriving. I had 100% success raising these chicks with a group of Silver Sebright and Spangled OEGB. The chicks are all very friendly and accustomed to being handled. I was lucky to have a ratio of 2 males to 4 females if I’m guessing the sex of the growing birds. One of my favorite Porcelain D’uccle I call Little Blue as her color is spectacular. One that I think may be a rooster I call Tweety Bird because it is more lemon yellow. A couple almost have a mille fleur pattern of blue with yellow feathers. Love these booted bantams and the hatchery for setting us up for success.

I had a few die but crackle was quick to help solve the issue. I really appreciate their customer service. To be fair it’s cold right now in ny. It’s not supposed to be this cold!

I bought 8 blue Rosecomb together with 10Silver duckwing old english bantam and 12 Porcelain D’Uccle. They were all died when arriving. Some of them stuck between layers of hays. I got all refund but not happy because I didn’t get what I expected.
Cacker handle packing need to improve.

Beautiful Belgian Babies
Chicks arrived on time and in healthy, robust condition. I called ahead to my postal annex to alert them to the shipment and they notified me right away once the chicks had arrived. Cackle customer service was very kind and helpful, answering questions I had during shipping. I ordered six and was thrilled to see eight happy peeps on arrival.

The silliest Babies!
I ordered 5 and got 2 extra. No regrets! One of them has splay leg, but all of them are the goofiest birds and they are so sweet and do great with handling! This is the least skittish batch of chicks I’ve ever had. Thanks Cackle Hatchery!

I am always pleased with chicks from Cackle. These and the Mille fleur variety were a gift for my mom and they have grown out wonderfully. We love them.

Love my porcelains
Healthy babies. I even got extra and did not have a single loss. Beautiful, sweet natured birds. Roos did well at the fair this year. Thank you Cackle!

Cute quirky birds!
I bought a mixed batch of baby chicks, all arrived healthy except for one that died the next day. I bought 5 porcelains total, and ended up with 2 boys and 3 girls. All of them are super quirky (one will get up high and fly on my head when she sees me) and friendly, And healthy. They are about 7 to 8 months old currently and doing great!

Beautiful Birds
The Porcelains are quiet. Not aggressive. We have one pair and they stay together even though we have 15 other bantams. They are shy, stick close to the barn even though they are free range. We have had very good experiences with Cackle Hatchery and will order from them again.

Adorable chicks
I really like cackle hatchery. They take great care of their babies when shipping them and they give you one or two more than you ordered incase something happens. The D’uccles I got were all healthy and happy. They are extremely adorable and friendly birds! Would definitely order from them again.

Porcelain D’Uccles Bantams
These are great birds. My little boy carries them around like stuffed animals. They love him. The rooster is hilarious. Thanks for your great service.

Beautiful chickz
Ordered my chicks on Cackle Hatchery website. Site was user friendly and secure. Picked my chicks up on the date, hatchery said they would be ready. The chicks were very healthy. Care instructions and thermometer was given. All my chicks survive and are all thriving adults now!!! Highly recommend..

Great little birds!
These little birds have quickly become a favorite! They are so docile and very pretty birds. We ended up with 2 hens and 1 rooster. I wish I had gotten more of them now!

Thanks
Everything went perfectly. We ordered 28 chicks from different varieties & got 35 total. Shipped on May 26 & got here on the 28th. I was so worried the post office would mess things up. They never called me but thanks to Cackle’s system, I got the tracking # & monitored the shipment. They all arrived perfectly fine chirping like crazy & moving around. I followed their instructions & all were doing great til Saturday when 1 of the porcelain duccles died overnight. For such a long journey I am extremely & pleasantly surprised. We ordered 5 of these porcelain duccles & got 1 extra so even though it’s sad it’s ok. Very pleased with the way the company works. Thank you so much.Highly recommend.

Thanks!
We have no words to adequately express our gratitude to everyone at Cackle Hatchery! The weather was so cold with temps in the 20’s and wind chills in the teens. But a box of 34 chicks arrived safely! The little Porcelain D’Uccles are wonderful. Thank you so very much! The Smith Family
