Zombie Chicken

Description

Although the Zombie chicken appears to be undead, in reality it is quite lively. It is both cold hardy and heat tolerant, an excellent forager, disease resistant, and an easy keeper. And, with its gentle and friendly but inquisitive temperament, it makes a wonderful backyard pet.

The ghostly appearance of the Zombie chicken is a result of crossing an Ayam Cemani rooster with a white Leghorn hen. The offspring have dark skin from the black rooster’s side under pale plumage from the white hen’s side.

A Zombie chicken has an eerie blackish-gray face, beak, single comb, and wattles. The dark face and skin are a stark contrast to the pallor of nearly white feathers bearing irregular black or gray spots and patches.

Thanks to genetics from the Leghorn side, the hens are excellent layers. They produce anywhere from 270 to 300 medium to large eggs per year.

The unique Zombie chicken combines the features of the perfect pet, superlative layer, and mid-size meat bird. All plus a spooky appearance that’s bound to draw plenty of attention to these unusual backyard birds.
